Temple, Texas (FOX 44) – It’s National Police Week where we honor those who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.

It is also a chance to pay tribute to the fallen officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Garrick Glover has been a temple police officer for almost five years.

Glover is an Army veteran and says his goal is to help and serve others.

“We all like to help everyone. You get a sense of accomplishment when you do this job. It’s like you really feel a sense of accomplishment,” Glover said.

Officer Glover grew up in various towns in Central Texas throughout his childhood.

Glover played sports in school, and when he entered high school, he began to think about others.

“As soon as I discovered that I liked the military and that mindset of doing something that would serve more than just me, it felt good and I had to continue doing it,” Glover said.

Glover is a temple patrol officer and a certified mental health responder.

Glover says the best part of the job is closing conversations.

“It’s usually someone’s worst day when they have to call us, so whenever you can get them to calm down, it’s nice to see the wave wash over them. They feel better just that we are there,” Glover said.

In honor of National Police Week, the city of Temple recognized Glover and other officers for their service and dedication.

Glover appreciates the recognition, but says he does everything for the community.

“We don’t do it for attacks or pats on the back. We do this because we feel the need to protect people,” Glover said.

Glover says national policing week also gives his team members the opportunity to appreciate each other for what they do.
